Mental Performance Coaching

Working Closely with Athletes to take Their Mental Performance to the Next Level

Are you an athlete or do you know an athlete who:

1. Performs better in practice than in competition;

2. Performs scared, tight or in fear of making mistakes;

3. Gets easily frustrated with mistakes, making more mistakes;

4. Wants to win so badly that they tighten up and try too hard;

5. Wants to improve consistency in performance or get more from practice.

If you resonate with any of these statements, you could improve with a better mental game.

Guiding Athletes to Find Passion in Life after Sports

Are you an athlete or do you know an athlete who recently retired from an athletic career?

Many athletes struggle to find passion and meaning following their career in sports. I help transitioning athletes dig deep to find their unique character strengths and how they can utilize them on a daily basis. I guide them on their journey to find their next passion in their lives.

About

My name is Ari Kafka. Growing up, the sports world was my outlet where I felt most comfortable. In High School, I was a three-sport athlete (Football, Basketball and Baseball). Baseball provided me with the best opportunity to continue playing in college.

In between High School and College, I was fortunate to work with Dick Radatz ("The Monster"), a dominant Closer for multiple MLB teams in the ‘60s, and Jim Lonborg, a Cy Young Award winning Pitcher. Both men introduced me to the importance of the Mental game in sports, which helped take my game to the next level. I struggled with inconsistency, but, with the help of these mentors, I improved my game each year at Quinnipiac University.

I was drafted by the Seattle Mariners and played three seasons of Minor League baseball. During that time, I benefited from working closely with Dr. Jack Curtis, author, motivational speaker, and Mental Skills consultant for athletes.

After retiring, I started working with a close mentor who holds a Masters in Positive Psychology and a Doctorate in Human and Organizational Psychology. With his encouragement, I obtained my Masters in Social Work and currently I am a licensed Social Worker.

Over the past ten years I have been honing my clinical skills, helping incarcerated inmates, abuse victims, addicts, and gap year students dealing with and working through mental health issues.

I am currently combining these skills with my background in sports to be a Mental Performance Coach for athletes.
